Over 140 People Attend City of Santa Monica’s First Kidical Mass Ride
It has been a very busy last couple months for the Santa Monica SRTS team! Countless events have occurred to promote biking and walking to our four pilot schools and the community as a whole. In March and April, our four pilot schools participated in a Car(e) Free Challenge (car free, care free) in which students logged miles commuted to school using alternative transportation to gear up for Bike It Walk It Days in May. Students logged a combined total of 4,389 car-free miles over the two month period! As part of the challenge, students also participated in mini bike and walk to school days in both months. In April, the City hosted its first ever Kidical Mass ride. Approximately 140 people participated (including volunteers). The local co-op assisted children with bike safety checks and kids had the opportunity to decorate their helmets prior to the 2.5 mile ride. There was a free pizza party and raffle prizes after the ride. Check out this video about the event featured on City TV.
